BOBBY-DAZZLERS
Co-ordinator's Report for 2005
Our January session opened with plenty to do and play with. New toys had not been purchased but variety comes in many guises. Having the hall set out differently or a selection of dressing-up clothes adds to every session being fresh and exciting.
The continued use of the new furniture has definitely benefited the group. Fund-raising money well spent. If taken care of the tables and chairs will serve the users well.
Books / Story time
Caria Bowyer from Sleaford Library has continued to visit almost on a monthly basis. Story telling helps to introduce children to love books. Carla's time with us is given with fun and sensitivity. This service is really appreciated.
Shrove Tuesday
Pancakes cooked and tossed in the kitchen were shared and enjoyed. We sang rhymes to mark the occasion even though we were a day early.
Easter
Preparation began on the 14th March making cards to send to loved ones. The 21st March Easter session brought hot-cross buns at refreshment time. The children made Easter egg baskets and special biscuits to take home.
Summer Term 4th April
Project work continues to be popular - woolly sheep, paper aeroplanes, snakes, spiders, dog-masks, potato- printing, and collage work etc. Baking and play dough provide much pleasure. For adults too!
Sleaford Toy Library
In June we became a Group Member of the local toy library. We can now borrow toys etc. for a minimum weekly hire charge. A great asset for individuals and groups in the area.
Playaway Picnic 11th July
Boston Road recreation ground was the venue as in other years. Fifty children were catered for with accompanying adults. The weather was' Hot! Hot!! Hot!!! Besides the recreational ground play equipment we provided Sand- Play, Face-Painting, Story time with Caria & Student (who did very well), Bubble Blow, Balls, Eats, Drinks, Photographs, Stickers, Certificates and a Great Deal of Fun - "Hooray!'
Leavers Presentation 18th July-last summer session
Twelve children were leaving to attend school. Presented by Revd Steve Faber, each child received a book and Certificate. In the autumn photographs of this event were in the Sleaford Target. Sam Cook was emigrating to New Zealand the very next day with his family we wished them every happiness..
BOBBY-DAZZLERS Re-opened 5th September
As Heather King was no longer able to help - she was entering a new career and Dorothea Adlem was going on a trip to Australia our two relief volunteers, Jill James and Ann Coaker, stood us in good stead helping during the oncoming weeks. Janet Peck has become a permanent volunteer since the start of our autumn sessions. She has become a valued member of our team.
First Aid Training
John Wing, Lesley Anthony, and Lynda Tasker successfully completed a Paediatric First Aid Course (Baby & Pre-School Children) in November. A certified qualification, that lasts three years. BOBBY-DAZZLERS funded this training at £32.50 per person. First Aid training is not mandatory for groups such as ours, but we felt it was good to acquire this knowledge. Other volunteers are interested in gaining this qualification in 2006.
Christmas
From November there was excitement in the air. Project work allowed the children to demonstrate their talents, making Pink Paper Mice, Christmas Cards and Paper Chains. Voices brightly practised carols and songs during singing circle time.
Party Session 12th December 2005
The Ball-pool, Parachute (kindly loaned by the Girls Brigade), Games, Stories and Activities ensued. Refreshments of fruit punch, mince pies and iced biscuits were served. In church we all sang carols, waiting in wonder. Father Christmas (Geoff Cowling) gave a gift and card to every child who also took home a special 'goody bag'.
Towards the Future
Natasha Laming and Tracey Pell have readily accepted to be on our committee as Parent/Carer Representatives from January 2006.
Our fee of £1 per family each session remains the same as does our aims and objectives.
BOBBY-DAZZLERS has been running a full three years. Many children who came when we first opened are now at school. Those who were babies are chatting and enjoying life as toddlers. Babies have arrived and older pre-schoolers, some new to this area, have started to attend.
The hard work and consistent commitment of our volunteers is sincerely appreciated.
Friendships formed reach out beyond the group sessions. A meaningful purpose to the sharing and running of our group for the community.
